That is disappointing but understandable. We are pretty back and forth on deciding whether IVF is our best option, and it seems like it’s less likely to work than trying again and risking the 25% chance it happens again. It’s a lot of information to weigh.

I recognize the decision and how to have children is a personal choice but I could never imagine putting myself in a position where I could need another termination. 100% believe your body, your choice…but I just couldn’t roll the dice again. Ivf was hard but it was worth doing it knowing that my child would be free of the disease that affected his sibling and that I would never again have my child suffer because of a disease I had unknowingly passed on.

No one wants to be in this position in the first place. IVF is not a guarantee of a healthy pregnancy - just a guarantee that this specific condition would not happen again. Obviously I see value in that, which is why we’re considering IVF.

We are in this exact same decision. 4 previous losses 12, 9 7 &5 wks. Then a tfmr at 23wks. Just found out my husband and I are both carriers. 1 in 8 chance it happens again.

If you’re comfortable, can you explain why they said 1/8 chance of happening again? We’re both carriers and our chance is 25% so I’m just curious. Honestly I think 1/8 chance I would try again. 1/4 feels like ivf is the safer bet.

It's a recessive gene that's only expressed in a male with both copies. So all 4 possible combinations in a girl would be fine. Then 1 in 4 chance if its a boy. So 1 in 8 total. So 50/50 it's a girl and if it was we wouldn't need any further cvs or tests.
