Flags of other countries in the workplace

I am an immigrant, and I am against it.

As a fellow immigrant public servant, this is exactly my point of view not because I am triggered by any flag but because it’s against the way I interpret public service neutrality. Perhaps my interpretation is too rigid. That’s why I wanted to see what others think about it. It seems like opinions vary and some people are more flexible whereas some others like us are more rigid when it comes to neutrality.

We live in a time where flag solidarity is becoming a thing. The pride flag is displayed at work which means no flag is off limits under our charter of rights & freedoms. Someone could wear an agnostic flag or a nationality flag - it is what it is. The argument can be made from there for or against. Flag neutrality is picking up traction though.

It’s not black and white for sure. That’s why I wanted to see what people think about it. Thanks for bringing up the charter but my question isn’t whether it can be supported on a legal basis or not. It’s a great point though. My question was more about how public servants use their judgement to decide whether something is appropriate or not. I can see that opinions range from rigid (not appropriate) to flexible (any flag is OK). In the middle, we have “but it’s context-dependent” people. On the other end, we have the “mind your own business and get a life” people. It is interesting to see this variation honestly.
