IVF for genetic condition - timing?

We found out after genetic testing that we are both carriers for a condition that is fatal. Our last pregnancy ended at 25 weeks because of that condition. 25% chance it happens again in a future pregnancy conceived naturally.

We did an IVF consult and the timeline was not what I was expecting. Since we know the condition, I figured it would just be a retrieval, testing, transfer - maybe around 3-4 months. But the doctor wants to do some baseline testing (no history of infertility or other concerns), the lab then needs a month to make a testing protocol for us, testing takes time, etc. He told us to expect a timeline of 6-9 months and that after pgt testing, we should expect 1-2 embryos based on one egg retrieval.

I was shocked by both the timeline and the amount of embryos to expect. Was I being delusional? I feel like I hear stories all the time of people getting 5-6 embryos. We want at least two more children so this was really hard to hear that we would need to do multiple retrievals for that.

Any insight or advice?
