New Italian Commuter

Going to pick up on Thursday a vintage Italian MTB from the '90s (1st pic), usually they used to use nice quality frames . But then I've noticed something in a pic of another same model, but different colours. They both have the Shimano Sis (the original one), but how many gears on the crank? 4? Anybody have seen before something like that?
