Doom and gloom on the accounting subreddit
Hi all. So I’ve been considering going back to school to study accounting for about two months at this point. Currently taking some time to “pre learn” with Tony Bell’s YouTube videos and get comfortable with the material.
One of the things holding me back from making a decision and actually enrolling in WGU is all the doom and gloom I read through r/accounting. Everything about offshoring jobs to India, the potential for AI to change everything, etc. I know that people that are happy for the most part don’t go on there to say how happy they are, and that it’s mostly disgruntled people, but does anyone have any insight into those concerns? Any reassurance?
This subreddit has been pretty positive for the most part, seeing people’s posts about getting entry level jobs with zero experience in accounting (the boat I’d be in) while if I were to go on the accounting subreddit they’d have me thinking I was getting this degree all for nothing, and it’s a little discouraging so I’m looking for some hope.
If anyone has any thoughts/relevant experience I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
Edit: I’ve read through all of your responses and I appreciate them a lot! I got more feedback than I thought and it all definitely changed how I view that sub. I anticipated similar responses but it’s still good to hear the success stories.
