Leadership roles importance?
Hey y’all. I am a 3rd year undergrad student seeking some advice. I changed my major from psych to animal science just last year, so even though I’m a 3rd year, I’m more like a sophomore in terms of classes taken etc. I’m looking for insight about leadership roles and their importance in applying to vet school. I am a commuter to my college, so a lot of the roles people generally take like RAs, etc are somewhat out of reach for me. To be honest with you all, I do not want to engage more on campus. I am happy just doing my work, and going home afterwards. I am on a sports team which I am (hoping) to become captain for soon, have TAed in the past as well as participating in a summer freshman program, but that’s really about it as far as “extracurriculars” so far. I get pretty good grades (gpa is 3.83), I’m a dual major and will be earning my ASCP certification for histotechnology, I live on a horse farm, have a good amount of vet hours, and planning to get more in the coming months. My dream school is Cornell (I live in NY). My question is should I really be doing more to stand out in terms of being more active on campus and leadership opportunities, or is what I’m doing enough? I feel like I barely would have time for anything more on my plate, but I would make something work if I felt like it was necessary for my application. I reached out about tutoring which would be my most preferred option, but they aren’t in need of any at my school right now. I’m just feeling nervous that I’m not doing enough. TIA for any advice!
