USYD is a decent University

I don’t know why people claim USYD to be bad university. Personally, my starting semester was bad because I was clueless about every single thing. But students were supporting. In my whole second year, I got several benefits which I didn’t find anywhere else I studied: 1. Mental health counselling free of charge (they claim it to be 6 but they end up extending it and they have Sonder and much more to support further) 2. The university offers $3000 if you have are struggling financially (I got it twice and when I had no food, they offered me $100 grocery voucher) 3. Food hub which has many essential food items and que is not big (In UNSW, I guess they have it on 2 days and que is 1-2 hours long) 4. Let’s not forget free food or items like cloths going around every week by USU 5. If you fail the unit and have valid reason for failing they give you late discontinuation and refund you. (I got 2 late DCs and it was my fault as I was doing full time job. Through student declaration and few small period PPCs, my application was approved. If you were effected for more than 20 working days, thr chances are high that they are gonna give you late Dc instead of fail). 6. Many special consideration applications approved (almost instantly), 7. No questions asked simple extensions 8. teachers were understanding and let you take the quizzes or learning journal or small assessments again if you missed them just by mailing them (it worked 100% of times with me and I missed almost all time. My UNSW and Monash friends said that it doesn’t work often to them) 9. Almost all units taught me things which are helpful in the internship I am doing currently (I choose units based on skills not easy scoring units) 10. In the business school, you have job smart program where I got to learn many practical skills and was able to do 3 industry projects. 11. There were many units which was client facing and in many of the units, tutor/unit coordinator tells you upcoming free major companies bootcamp, competition, internships, etc. 12. Group conflicts doesn’t effect the marks negatively (almost always) if you are not at fault. My group left me 1 day prior of group assignment (they were speaking in Mandarin and was not letting me take part). I submitted the assignment myself and it was crap! However, teacher knew all this and still gave me a credit. (I don’t even think that I deserved to be pass but I had no time) 13. Many societies and events 14. Alumni support 15. Career & Employment office helps you even after completion of degree And many more………. I am not counting students general support or Library access or facilities here.

I do know that our University have had protests going on, many tutor are not highly knowledgeable, lack of university facilities knowledge, and much more. But that does not mean that our University is worse than other group 8 or literally any other Australian Universities. Recap of this USYD Reddit community is so sad that almost all are criticising our University. And just a point of view that I read it on some comment, people who are satisfied don’t post anything as they are ok with things and those who are not are criticising it here. Infact, I have been satisfied with USYD but didn’t post anything till today. And even today, I wrote it after looking at sad recap of this community. What do you think?
