Analog synths blurring together
When I come home from work, and I do whatever I'm doing around my studio rebuild done, I usually surf YouTube to wind down for the night looking at synths. I'm certainly not an expert on every analog synth out there, but by now, I've heard a lot of sounds from a lot of them. And to be perfectly honest, it feels like so many of them are really just starting to sound like the same synth with a different layout.
Now, I'm not saying that these synths are bad. There are certain synths that always stand out to me. Oberheims, Moogs, they're all instantly identifiable. In terms of modern synths, boards like Code 8, Deckard's Dream and (most recently) the GS Music E7 all have a very distinct character to me. But listening to a lot of other synths makes me feel like I could pick a random board and get a ballpark similar sound. I own several DSI/Sequential products, and the bleed over between products to me is quite substantial.
So what makes an analog synth stand out to you? Is it the filters? Is it something about the oscillators? What makes an analog synth stand out among its comparable counterparts to you?
