I have a 10 hour layover in Shanghai Pudong, flying onward to the Philippines. US Citizen living in Japan. Any issues getting a transit visa to run to the Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre during layover?

Most details are in the title I guess, but we'd like to make the most of our 10 hour layover in China. Through previous research I believe we will qualify for a transit visa, but I've never been to Shanghai or China in general so don't know if it's an absolutely stupid idea to try to pull this off in "only" 10 hours.

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. I don't want to be incredibly stressed, but I'd also hate the miss the opportunity to see even just a glimpse of a totally different country that I'm very interested in but may not return to for some time.

p.s. If you say "No, this is crazy, don't do it, good chance you'll miss your flight!" or something similar, also open to alternate suggestions on how to spend the 10 hour layover at Pudong :)
