Do you cut designs into your body?

No, this post is not intended to be an encouragement of self-harm. I'm just curious if it's a more common thing. When I cut myself, I usually avoid the regular "straight slices" and instead try to cut some sort of pattern into my arm. Usually they're either words - be it prayers or profane statements - or religious symbols, such as Crosses, Chi-Rhos, and Runes. Does anyone else do this? Does anyone put any meaning in them too?
