This Super Bowl reminded me of the 1936 Olympics.

I do not follow sports and normally do not care one whit about the Super Bowl. However, hearing about Trump attending and being pro-Kansas City made me decide to root for Philadelphia. I was further encouraged to support them after seeing a pic of Gritty (mascot for the city's hockey team) flying the Pride flag. With LGBTQ+ people under very visible attack, it was an especially powerful gesture of solidarity.

So I was delighted when I learned that the Eagles won, and that the halftime show also pissed off terrible people. For years, the entire platform of the right has been to produce and drink liberal tears; for this brief moment, a role reversal felt correct.

The fascist coup is still very much on, and things are still sliding into oblivion, but for this one glorious evening, we got to have a recreation of the 1936 Olympics, where Jesse Owens demolished Hitler's chosen right in front of his face.

Thank you Philadelphia for being one of the only groups that have been capable of denying Donald Trump something he wants.
