SFPD:
SFPD Officer Injured While Arresting Knife-Wielding Suspect
A San Francisco police officer was injured Thursday morning while arresting a knife-wielding suspect in the Park District – the second incident in two days where SFPD officers have been injured in the line of duty.
Thankfully, the officer is recovering at the hospital.
It happened at approximately 8:54 a.m. when officers assigned to the Healthy Streets Operation Center (HSOC) responded to Central and Fulton Streets regarding a complaint regarding a possible encampment.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted a known male in an encampment. During the interaction, the subject began wielding a large knife. The male failed to comply with the officer's orders to drop the knife and officers attempted to negotiate with him to obtain a peaceful resolution.
The officers eventually detained the suspect, but one officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The suspect was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. At this time due to the open investigation, we are not releasing the identity of the arrested suspect who is currently receiving medical treatment. This is the second incident in two days where officers have been injured in the line of duty.
