went from preparing for law school to SaaS sales - was this the right move?
Hi everyone,
Just a quick background about me - I graduated in 2018 from a top-tier liberal arts school with my eyes set on attending law school eventually. I majored in history and wrote for our law review, so I've always sort of saw myself going to law school and practicing international law and doing diplomacy afterwards.
Then, as I buckled down to study for the LSAT and get serious about applying to law school in May of 2020, I found myself getting fucked by the LSAT over and over and growing unconfident and disenchanted about a legal career because of it. I eventually submitted my law school apps in a half-hearted fashion around late Nov/early Dec 2020, knowing that I will most likely not get into the schools I applied to with my LSAT/GPA (it was a hail mary attempt lol).
I've been out of a job because I was preparing for law school apps full-time. Thankfully, I got a job in SaaS sales as an SDR at a big tech company (FAANG). I didn't know a single thing about tech sales, but the more I've been reading on this subreddit and a talking to members on my team, I'm becoming drawn to the idea of sales, particularly meeting clients, discussing how our product can help solve their problems, etc... I'm also fairly outgoing and enjoy socializing, so I don't have any problem interacting with clients.
To get to the point of this post, a part of me still feels like I left some knots untied from "ditching" law school for SaaS sales. I always thought I would attend law school and didn't think much of a career outside of it, and now I'm having a bit of career anxiety with this abrupt switch. I'm not exactly sure what I want to ask in this post, other than asking for words of reassurance that this (going into SaaS sales) was ultimately the better choice for me than going to law school.
tl;dr - was preparing for law school to do int. corp. law, didn't work out, got a job as SDR @ big tech SaaS sales, need some affirmation that this was the right move career-wise.
thank you so much!
