I'd happily take a warm, moderately homophobic society over a cold "gay friendly" one

Countries like the Netherlands or Denmark are known to be very safe and accepting for gays, but the tradeoff is being surrounded by boring, unfriendly people who might send you a payment requests for snacks. I'd rather be called frocio on the streets of some nice Italian city. It's a small price to pay.
