Getting an MRI

So I’m getting an MRI done next week and have had my nipples pierced for almost 4 years now. I’ve never changed the jewelry on my own but bought some plastic ones for my scan. Can I change them on my own safely? Or should I have a professional do it (and then again afterwards to put the original jewelry back in)?
