The Targeted Ads Are Getting Weird Okay, I know we've all experienced targeted ads, but lately, mine are bordering on creepy. It's not just the usual stuff – like, if I'm looking at shoes online, I expect to see shoe ads. But this is different. I was talking to my friend about wanting to try a new type of tea, specifically mentioning the brand and flavor, and boom – it's the first ad I see when I open Instagram. I hadn't searched for it, hadn't even looked at tea online. Just mentioned it in conversation. Then, the other day, I was thinking about needing a new desk lamp. Just a fleeting thought, hadn't even voiced it to anyone. Later that day, I'm scrolling through Facebook, and there it is: an ad for the exact style of desk lamp I had pictured in my head. It's like my phone is listening to me, or reading my mind. I've even started whispering things I don't want to see ads for, just to test it. Am I going crazy? Is anyone else experiencing this level of targeted advertising? It's making me seriously rethink my relationship with technology... and maybe invest in some tin foil hats. Anyone have any similar stories or explanations for this?
