Thinking of naming my daughter Cleopatra. Cleo for short. Thoughts?
If thing go well we'll be having a baby in September. Thinking of naming her Cleopatra: The inspiration came from my wife actually, and I kind of like it (also given that it means Glory to the father apparently!).
I also like that we can shorten to Cleo as a nickname.
I'm a history buff, and I think it would be impossible to not conflate this name with Cleopatra of Egypt. And reading her history, I find her to be really pretty clever and shrewd in securing her control over Egypt (even though she herself was Greek).
That said, she did have affairs with two of the most powerful men in Roman history - Caesar and Antony - to further her ambitions for control over Egypt, and hence in media since Roman times she has been portrayed quite sexually or promiscuously. That isn't too much of a bother to me personally, but it's important context.
But what do you think name nerds of reddit? Cleopatra?
Edit: Wow, so this had quite the reaction. Quite divisive, a lot of love and a lot of hate for it (with more leaning hate if it were an election). I think we'd always call her Cleo, so I'm not too bothered personally if her full name was Cleopatra. But thank you reddit, you certainly have spoken.
