Planning Montreal visit in April from NYC

Planning a short trip to Montreal from nyc this April- solo brown woman with US passport. Any pointers/do and donts is highly appreciated. Have been seeing lot of negative coverage abt Canada lately and I am concerned. Will b using amtrack.
