Why do people in the metro lose their Canadian manners?

Hi there! I hope everyone is doing great!

I feel like it’s every man for himself in the Montreal metro. Am I the only one who finds it totally chaotic? There’s no sense of civilized direction, people cut in front of you, no one says “sorry,” no nods, no smiles. Everyone seems to be in such a rush. And on top of that, no one holds the door open or says “thank you.”

I’ve been told many times that this doesn’t represent Canada as a whole, and today, a colleague at work mentioned that Montreal has been degrading over the past 10 years, especially after COVID.

Am I the only one who finds it really stressful? (Regardless of the lines, etc., I’m speaking overall.)
