Someone please help me!

Someone please take pity on me and help me. I’m trying to do a lace shawl. I figured out how to do the stupid tab (65 rows in stockinette, shoot me now).

But now I’m in the chart. I’ve always done worded/written charts, but I’m always up for a challenge, I didn’t think this would be that difficult.

Besides being stupidly confused as to what to do with the “no stitch” spaces, I thought I had figured out how to get started with the first part of this shawl. Picture included. Literally the first row is just “yarn over” “knit” “yarn over”.

Okay that makes sense, I thought to myself naively. But then I got to the end of the row and ended on a knit, not a yarn over (which I have to start over anyway as the instructions specifically state to do Knit4 * work across chart 1, then chart 2; repeat from *. So there’s THAT!)

So my question is: is the pattern reading Yo, K, Yo, K, Yo repeating OR is it reading Yo, K, Yo, Yo, K, Yo, Yo, since I’m technically just repeating it over and over again.

The shawl I’m making is Poppy Shawl from the Lovely Knitted Lace book by Brooke Nico. Picture of yarn I’m using for yarn tax. I feel really, really dumb right now.
