r/Katebush's album ranking: A methodological approach

Method:

I looked at every post where people ranked Kate's albums by favorite to least favorite, and all the comments in those posts where people did the same.

I only counted lists from members of this sub (ie, ignored "NME's ranking of Kate's Albums" type posts).

I then gave an album one point of it was someone's favorite, and deducted a point if it was someone's least favorite.

POINTS FOR FAVORITE ALBUMS

1 - The Dreaming 21
2 - Hounds of Love 10
3 - The Kick Inside 7
4 - Never For Ever 5
5 - Aerial 3
6 - (tie) The Red Shoes 2
6 - (tie) 50 Words for Snow 2
6 - (tie) The Sensual World 2

Not surprisingly, Lionheart and Director's Cut were not anybody's favorite (if someone listed Director's Cut as their favorite I'd assume they were trolling).

POINTS DEDUCTED FOR LEAST FAVORITE

  1. Director's Cut 24
  2. 50 Words for Snow 11
  3. Lionheart 8
  4. The Red Shoes 6
  5. The Kick Inside 2

Which brings us to the

LIST OF KATE'S ALBUMS, BEST TO WORST, According to the Sub.

  1. The Dreaming 21
  2. Hounds of Love 10
  3. Never For Ever 5
  4. The Kick Inside 4
  5. Aerial 3
  6. The Sensual World 2
  7. The Red Shoes -4
  8. Lionheart -8
  9. 50 Words for Snow -9
  10. Director's Cut -24

Notes:

  • Needless to say, all the numbers posted are as of the time of this post Edit.

  • By sheer coincidence, this is also very close to my own personal ranking of her albums (I'd swap Aerial and The Kick Inside).

  • If I ONLY looked at the Best Albums, The Kick Inside would have ranked higher than Never For Ever.

  • I'm surprised there's such a gap between The Dreaming and Hounds of Love (it's usually a 60%/40% split on other Kate forums I've seen when this topic is brought up).

  • I only counted Director's Cut where people specifically mentioned it. If they didn't, I put whichever album came in 9th place as last. In other words, had I counted it as implied, it would have done even worse (and 50 Words For Snow would probably have done better than Lionheart).

  • Speaking of which, I only counted lists where at least nine albums were listed; I also ignored any Tier List unless only one album was in the top tier AND only one was in the bottom tier.
