Does anyone else just go to jam shows and not know much, if anything, about the band?
I've been doing this for the last year or so, and it's kind of worked out.
I was never into the Dead much, but I have friends that are. Gov't Mule I got into as a recording artist -- their hard/rock blues sound was very accessible to me, so I went and saw them for the first time in '22. One of my friends into the Dead got me to see String Cheese incident, and I liked that. From there it was Billy Strings, Tedeschi-Trucks (though I had mild exposure to Derek Trucks as a solo artist via Gov't Mule), Goose, Dogs in a Pile, JRAD, and last night, Eggy.
All super solid shows, though I thought some were stronger than others. And it really didn't matter that I wasn't familiar with much or sometimes any of their material or performances. And even though I've enjoyed the shows, I don't really listen much to these bands outside of that, with some exceptions.
I just wish more bands would come here to Minnesota. I feel like WP, Umphrey, Moe, Disco Biscuits are just never gone come here for reasons related to being out of the way and maybe this style being less popular here.
