Do You Think He’ll Die?

Ever since this panel dropped I’ve been conflicted on whether or not Follo should die based purely on a writing standpoint. On one hand, obviously I don’t want him to die and I think him living, whether or not his junkies manifests, is going to be good for the story because I think he’s a character that adds to this story. On the other hand, I think killing Follo off could also be beneficial for the story for a couple reasons. First, I feel like we’ve come to a point in Rudo’s character where he doesn’t have that much he still needs to learn in terms of character development. His main flaw was that he was short tempered and angry but in the most recent arcs we’ve seen him get that under control enough to where it’s not really a problem anymore. Atp in the series, I feel like Rudo’s character doesnt have much direction to go. I think the death of Follo would be a really pivotal event and set up the future character arc that Rudo will go through. Secondly, I feel like Gachiakuta has fairly low stakes right now. Not that there isn’t tension, but in terms of character deaths, the only significant one is Regto who died in chapter 1. I think the story has kind of created this feeling of immortality surrounding the characters, especially after characters like Gris and Zanka were pretty much at death’s door but ended up surviving. I think having a permanent casualty in this series would cement that Urana’s not afraid to kill off a character which would raise the stakes exponentially. Right now, I think Zodyl is a little hard to truly fear because every time he’s run into the cleaners, he basically makes a threat to their lives and he hasn’t once acted on it, making his threats seem empty. If Follo is indeed gone, I think Urana sets herself up nicely to make the vandals a very frightening force, more so than they are now by showing that these characters aren’t immortal. Both Tamsy and Zodyl have made threats to the lives of the characters but we don’t yet have real reason to believe they will follow through with it because no one has died since chapter 1. While I don’t want Follo to die, I think it would be a very pivotal moment in the series where things start to get more tense and we fear whats going to happen next even more. I don’t think Gachiakuta is going to go on forever. I have a feeling we’re reaching nearly halfway through the series. Follos death could mark the turning point between the two halves of this series, where the second half would be much scarier and more tense than ever.
