Information about the transition from a close friend

My friend had a meeting today with their manager. She was hired 100% remote. The main office is in DC, she lives in Tennessee. Her division and role is being transitioned back to full in the office in DC, thus ending her remote position. She has a couple options (a) move to DC and continue her position (b) join another team that is located (in-office) in one of the larger offices both would require a significant move (2-3 states away). The manager is attempting to find an office in another location, but at this point the closest is 1 hour and a half away but it isn't looking good because she is the only one that would be in that office and manager does not think they will get it approved for one person. I asked when she would need to make a choice, luckily not now, but in ~ 90 days.
