Has grooming changed your opinion on any dog breeds??
For me it certainly has and I wanna know if it’s common.
In my own experience, I was always under the impression that chihuahuas were difficult, mean, and generally unpleasant to work on. Well not I’d gladly eat those words. Chihuahuas (at least the ones I work on) are some of the sweetest, most eager to please, patient little dogs in the world. It’s rare that I have one in the salon that is hard to work on. In fact I get so happy to see one on my schedule at this point. They’re easy grooms and my chi-chi dogs are always some of my best clients.
On the other hand you’ve got labs. Now I love me a good lab, I have a lab mix, but let me tell you, all of my lab clients are suuuuuper hard to groom. No only is lab hair hard to dry (for me it takes forever) but my labs tend to be pretty head strong. They’re SUPER SMART which means that they always find new fun ways to throw me off my game and make the groom take longer. It’s incredible, I can’t help but admire the determination. But man, when I see one of my lab regulars on the schedule I just gotta take a deep breath because I know I’m gonna be playing 3D chess with that dog the whole time it’s in here.
I’m not trying to generalize and I’m sure there are outliers but I’d love to know some of your guys’ breeds of choice or challenge breeds. All dogs are so amazing and no hate on any breed at alll!
