The children's TV shift of 2003

As early as 1999 there was gigantic trend amoung TV networks that no one really noticed or talks about. Kids' WB had its own Toonami block, Viacom slowly drips Nick shows on the Nick on CBS block, and ABC has the Disney channel shows show up on their block. Abc Family brought over the family friendly tgif block in 2002 for a cup of coffee before outrage by Abc syndication outlets ended it. The reason for this programming was to sample content for viewers to eventually switch over to their cable counterparts.

In essence, broadcast television viewers were being prepared for the impending gutting by the parent networks. Blocks of broadcast children were destroyed by cable networks. With Pokemon and Teen Titans broadcasting nonstop on Cartoon Network by 2003, Cartoon Network essentially stole everything from Kids' WB. Fox Kids gave way to Fox Box, and Kids' WB terminated its weekday block in 2005 before completely ceasing operations in 2008 (citing competition from cable networks as the reason) Abc Family brought over the family friendly tgif block in 2002 for a cup of coffee before outrage by Abc syndication outlets ended it. 2003 can be pointed as the year where ish hits the fan for kids TV. A build up of changing guards for television from 1999-2002 all came to a head in this year.
