CAD tech career path

here’s the deal. i’m 27m with a construction engineering degree. currently in a CAD tech role at a surveying/architecture firm in the midwest.

my last firm wanted to make me a project manager for state projects, even though i kept telling my supervisor that i didn’t want to do that. i wanted to stay with cad/design.

now that i’ve been doing straight CAD for for a while, i’m wondering how i can advance. i really enjoy the architecture and design side of things, but i keep getting stuck with as built projects and survey plats. i’m open to exploring that as a path, but i’m not sure. thoughts??
