Mariposa Grove Hike

Hi all! My fiancée and I will be visiting Yosemite next weekend and looking to visit Mariposa Grove. Is it easier to hike the Washburn trail or just walking the road? Not sure if one is shorter than the other depending on turns/switchbacks etc. TIA.
