Itinerary for early March

My girlfriend and I are doing a 7 day trip to Iceland in March and wanted some feedback on our itinerary. Initially we were planning a more ambitious trip heading up to Akureyri and the North, but were worried about spending so much time driving and having no slack if weather doesn't co-operate, so we scaled back. Things we are optimizing for:

  1. Seeing the Northern Lights (if possible)

  2. Having a home base. Having a different place to sleep each night and kind of living our of our car doesn't seem great, so we were thinking of staying in hotels 2 nights and exploring the area rather than exploring the area on the way from hotel to hotel

  3. Driving ourselves. I get motion sickness as a passenger so we are renting a car and I will drive as much as possible

  4. Lack of pain. We have some mobility issues and lots of walking can cause a lot of pain, so no very long hikes and stuff off the road within 15 minutes walk

  5. Pools and swimming, we love swimming and hot springs

Our plan:

Day 1: arrive very early, pick up rental car, drive to Hammsvik, pool and lounge, then drive to Borgarnes and have a relaxing night and try to catch up sleep missed from the red eye. We will see sites if energy allows but are thinking the red eye will mean we are extremely tired

Day 2: Explore Borgarnes, Reykholt, and Husafel areas and end up in Husafel

Day 3: wake up in Husafel, do a glacier tour. In the morning before and/or after the glacier tour (whihc is 4 hours), some driving and exploring the areas of anything we missed. Relaxing night, local pools if possible.

Day 4. wake up early, drive to Snaefellsnes Peninsula and explore, ending up in Stykkisholmur

Day 5. unsure at this point. debating either exploring more Snaefellsnes or Reykjavik, if there is a live volcano, we would book a helicopter to view that day, but either way ending up in Reykjavik

Day 6: Driving the Golden Circle, sleeping in Reykjavik

Day 7: Check out of hotel, breakfast, hot springs and then fly home

In addition to any feedback, we have a few questions:

Questions:

* A concern is that the Golden Circle, being so touristy, will feel underwhelming at the end, is this valid? It's unclear to us if the Golden Circle is awesome because its awesome or because its an easy trip for the first time

* We built in a lot of slack in case of bad weather, did we build in too much? It seems like a lot of people do an area a day and go hotel to hotel, are we making a mistake not doing that?

Thanks!
