Rep. Rob Wittman’s response to executive overreach
Recently reached out to his office to express concerns about unelected officials and the executive branch overstepping authority. Instead I received a response on executive orders and nothing about DOGE. Enjoy.
“As your representative, I am dedicated to serving all constituents in Virginia's First Congressional District, regardless of differing opinions. I recognize that many of you hold strong feelings about the current administration and its policies. While I personally support President Trump’s initiatives aimed at strengthening our economy, enhancing national security, securing our borders, and promoting job growth, I understand that not everyone shares this perspective.
I firmly believe that significant policy decisions should be made through the legislative process, where elected representatives can debate, amend, and vote on issues that impact our communities. This approach fosters transparency and accountability, ensuring that a variety of viewpoints are considered.
Although executive orders can sometimes address urgent matters, I am concerned about their implications for the balance of power within our government. The Constitution establishes a system of checks and balances, and Congress plays a vital role in shaping policy and representing the will of the people. When presidents rely heavily on executive actions, it can undermine this legislative process and diminish the voice of Congress.”
