"Just be a vet"

I'm currently a highschool student in a veterinary science program. I'm planning on becoming a vet assistant after highschool and then going to school to become a vet tech. (i hope thats allowed since im technically not a vet tech yet or even a student yet. if not feel free to remove this i dont want to invade) but anyways, my end goal is to be a vet tech. I love all the hands on stuff i've been learning about in the program im in and i would love to be as hands on with animals as possible. I dont care as much about diagnosing or forming treatment plans or whatever. So, I think it makes sense that I would persue a career as a vet tech. I've had multiple people now (family, friends, etc) ask me why I dont "just become a vet instead". They act like theres this linear pathway of assistant --> tech --> veterinarian when in reality techs and vets are 2 different things. It's frustrating because I wish they'd just support me for what I want to do instead of acting like im lazy and "giving up" by "settling" for being a tech. I have multiple family members trying to become RNs too, and not once have I heard anyone in my family tell them "Oh...you just want to be a nurse? At that pount why dont you just become a doctor??"

Sighh anyways I just wanted to know if this is a common mindset or if the people around me or just weird. Or maybe I'm missing something and theyre right? I dunno.
