Tale of woe ...
TLDR - I fell down some hard stone stairs carrying my Model 12. Whilst it's taken some damage to the edges, the desksaver ultimately did it's job protecting it. It also seems absolutely fine with recording and playback etc.
I came home late last night from a band rehearsal, about 12.30am. It's the first time I've taken the M12, as we needed more inputs than those provided by the rehearsal space's PA.
I was tired (having finally got through a pretty gruelling work week) and it was cold and peeing it down - meaning I wanted to get the four trips back and forth from the car lugging all the kit over as quickly as possible.
I'm fortunate enough to have a converted cellar where I play, practice and record. The stairs down to it are old hard stone (it's a 1790s house) and pretty steep. The first trip from the car to the cellar was a big bag of cables/kettle leads and a piano stand on one arm and the M12 tucked under the other. As I was heading down the stairs my wet trainers slipped on the stairs and I fell down them from the 2nd step from the top all the way to the bottom (photo 5).
It hurt. But so did seeing the Tascam bounce down the stairs to the floor ahead of me. Luckily the Desksaver took some of the damage, but you can see where the force of the fall has cracked the casing (photos 1-4)
I'm lucky and also gutted. Thankfully the unit works absolutely fine so this is only cosmetic. I'm actually quite chuffed at its resilience and sturdiness.
So. Don't be an idiot like me and if you are taking yours out and about, have a desksaver and ideally a case for it. At a minimum use 2 hands to transport it. And don't overload yourself when trying to go up and down stairs with wet shoes. You know - obvious stuff.
