How do people still not get this episode?
I see a lot of people who freak out over the siren thing trying to imply that Nick being male meant Dean was bi/gay when Nick was literally Sam.
And that’s because Deans siren had nothing to do with romantic/sexual desire. Sirens lure people in with what they want most, and for Dean, that was his bond with his brother back.
They even spell it out, word for word. It also shines a lot of light on Deans codependency because so much of his emotional life is wrapped up in Sam that he can’t really want things outside of taking care of his brother. Somewhere late in the first 5 seasons Dean even admits he’s never been in love. It’s like a single parent trying to date with a kid, but because Sam is an adult striving for independence, we see how unhealthy it is.
I actually loved this scene. Moments like this are what make the characters and the show so interesting. Idk, it’s just kind of upsetting to see people reduce it down to something sexual. I do blame the writers too though because the siren was seen as entirely sexual up until this moment. Even in the Odyssey they prey more on abstract desires like power and glory.
