Bank submitted credit apllication form with a credit check without our consent.

My partner called TD credit card services to ask about a pre-approved credit card limit increase. The rep stated that there was a pre-approved amount of 13k on file, which my partner then promptly agreed to.

The rep started asking a million questions about income, expenses, and other bank accounts. This raised a flag as it suggests she was filling out an application for the credit limit instead of applying the pre-approved amount. The call lasted for over an hour with most of it being on hold. The rep would come back every couple of minutes to ask another personal finance question before the line suddenly cut.

We waited a couple of minutes before calling back. After explaining to the new rep what happened, we were put on hold while they were supposedly investigating. They end up telling us that the previous rep had submitted an application for the credit increase and that there was no pre-approved amount on file. They also confirmed that the submitted application implies a credit check, which my partner never consented to. Finally, they tell us that they cannot cancel the application and that we just have to wait and see if my partner is approved for the credit limit.

This has been more of an annoyance than anything. We didn't need a credit increase, it was more a matter of lowering credit utilisation ratio. If the first rep had simply told us that there was no pre-approved credit on file, we would have simply ended it right there.

Anything we can do that would actually matter?
