Actually easy gum grafting procedure

I was absolutely freaking out and anxious about my gum grafting procedure. I had heard from 2 friends that the procedure led to infections and you couldn’t eat solid food for 2 weeks…Well…for me, all that worryingly was for naught. I had 24 and 26 grafted. She took a tiny patch off the roof of my mouth. The procedure took 50 mins. I had a stint, which is kind of like a retainer, to protect the wound at the roof of my mouth. It was very comfortable for 3 days before it started rubbing, but by then, I felt fine without it. I only took 600 mg ibuprofen every 5 hours for the first 2 days. I didn’t need anything stronger than that. I ate smoothies and bone broth the first 2 days. By day 3 I was eating pasta. By day 4 I was given the thumbs up to go to my dancing class. By day 6 it was like nothing happened. The top of my mouth was healed. My grafting seemed to be, well, grafting. During my consult with my periodontist, I shared my concerns and I told her what I heard from a couple of people and she assured me that she does not use the potato peeler technique. It’s easy to imagine what that means, but maybe ask your periodontist what technique they use to cut the grafting tissue. If it sounds like a potato peeler…find a new periodontist, cause it sounds like that technique might lead to complications. Anyways, thought I’d share my easy-breezy experience.
