Quest 3/3s is the perfect entry point to VR.
I bought myself a Quest 3 a week ago. It’s my first real VR experience besides one time at Dave n Busters.
From the second you boot it up; everything about the experience is simultaneously intuitive and mind blowing. Even grabbing the floating menu screen the first time while still standing in my room was incredible. It’s great, and it needs to be. I think for VR to really kick off, the first time someone experiences it, it needs to be a home run.
I showed it to my parents, whom are in their 60s and do not play video games. They were both equally blown away, and my dad even said that he needed to get one. He sat in a theater, did a space walk, shot some fluffy guys in the living room, and (to my surprise) was even able to fully navigate through an entire area of Half-Life Alyx. With some assistance pulling ammo out of his shoulder.
For him to immediately pick up on how to use it, and immediately want one, says a lot. Considering he has trouble getting the TV and cable box on in the morning.
I built a PC in 2015 with the idea that it was going to be used mainly as a PCVR set up. However back then, the entry point was too expensive, muddy, and overall just technically confusing.
But now, when you boot into Quest 3. It’s all complete and ready to go, even before I link it to STEAM VR on my PC.
The Meta ecosystem is complete enough to where you feel like there are countless experiences you can find.
The tracking is so seamless that it’s not even something you give thought to. You just use the thing.
The only negatives are the strap and padding. To which I’ve already ordered a strap, a face pad, a battery, and a 16ft high wattage usb cable.
I know I’m late here, but since last week, I’ve been fanboying about it. It’s so sick, and easy to use.
10/10 will be purchasing any future iterations.
