Advice for nanny taking kids on an overnight trip by herself
Hi there, our awesome nanny of 8 years(since our oldest was a baby) has brought up the idea of her taking our oldest 2 on an a little overnight trip.
The whole house has been in a funk for a while now and we’ve been talking about how the lid is going to blow at any moment. We need some space, a little refresher. But we have 5 kids and my husband works a lot plus the pandemic and all... so doing a big family trip just isn’t in the cards for us right now. Plus I don’t think it’d be a refresher, just pushing our problems to another place. Lol
It would be a weekend or maybe even long weekend type deal. 3-4 days max. Probably somewhere like the Catskills/nature type stuff within 4 hours or less distance from NYC.
They are 8 and 6. Both have been away from us for 2 weeks at a time, staying with my in-laws in Canada. I’d argue they are closer/more comfortable with our nanny than in-laws so I’m not too concerned with them getting home sick.
Per our contract we pay her OT rate on weekends regardless of whether she hits OT or not. So we’ll do OT pay for all hours they are gone.
Any advice/tips to prepare them(nanny and kids) for this trip? Anything we might miss/not think of until it’s too late? Anyone do something like this and just want to share your likes and dislikes?
Oh also, our nanny already has a credit card and will be given emergency cash. We will be renting a car for them since none of us own cars. And whenever they go out, our nanny shares her location with me for safety reasons.
