2013 IUD found 6.5 years after being told it ”fell out”

I had my Mirena inserted in 2013. Fast forward to 2018….I had a favorable experience with Mirena up to that point so I had planned just to change the old one out for a new one. Dr was not able to locate it in my uterus during office visit so I was scheduled for hysteroscopy a few weeks later. It was performed and once awake I was told that the IUD was not in my uterus and probably “fell out” or migrated into my abdomen. I was then scheduled for an x-ray a week later to make sure it wasn’t just floating around in my body. Well, I was eventually told it just “fell out”. I always questioned how I wouldn’t know it fell out but was told it happens frequently. I have gone to this office for about 20yrs and have used the same Dr for this whole fiasco as well. So, I trusted their word. My mistake. Never got another IUD due to fear of another one “falling out” like the first. Fast forward again to last week. I began experiencing severe stomach pain in my navel area (side note: gallbladder removed in ‘19). Ended up in the ER where they could not determine the issue for the unbearable pain. Skimming over my discharge papers the following day and while reading my CT results there it was…..”Reproductive organs: IUD located in uterine fundus” Huh?!?! My what….is where?!?! Almost 12 years since it was first inserted, it’s still there. (Makes sense now as to why I’ve still only had very light spotting with my periods). I made an appt to see my gyno asap. They did an ultrasound in their office and yep, it’s still there. I told them I wanted it out asap because the pain is unbearable and I’ve had a low fever so I’m pretty sure it’s infected (My PCP did put me on antibiotics). I have since started digging through my online medical records and found the x-ray from a week after my failed hysteroscopy. You guessed it..it notes in black and white that my IUD was in fact seen on the x-ray. So, I am not sure why I was told it “fell out”. I will need to have another hysteroscopy soon where they hopefully can successfully remove it this time 😞. Did anyone have anywhere close to near this experience? Either being told it fell out when it didn’t or having the same one in for a long time?
