Alternative Opinion on TOG (spoilers for the Maasverse)
TOG is okay.
That said I love ACOTAR and CC. TOG is often held in higher esteem on the interwebs. It kind of reminds me of how people tell you to listen to a music artists’ old stuff because it’s BETTER than the music that made them popular. And it it never is. lol. Anyway, I just wanted to give an alternative perspective on TOG. I still think it’s worth it for the Maasverse, which is why I read it. I just haven’t the same heartfelt moments with Aelin, that I’ve had with Feyre and Bryce. ACOTAR and CC have more of the cheesy fun scenes that I was missing in TOG. I feel like SJM excels at that and didn’t find her style until five books into TOG.
I’m partially through KOA and I feel like I’ve had to drag myself through listening to these audiobooks. There are moments that I enjoy. Even characters and storylines that I love (Lorcan and Elide| Manon and Dorian | Chaol and Yrene). I’m more into the romance and the lore. I don’t care about “how the magic works” or much of the action. Most of the action has not caught my attention. (That’s more of a me issue. I also love the Empyrean series but have a really hard time focusing on the action scenes.) Much of EOS was action and I found that book boring until the end. I LOVED TOD except for the Nesryn scenes. I’m saying all this to say that I am not much of fantasy reader so take that into consideration.
For better reference, ACOSF is my favorite book of SJMs with ACOMAF being a close favorite. I love the entire plot of CC and how it connects the three series.
Please don’t downvote me. I’m writing this for all those people who ask if they should read TOG. Also I welcome any book recommendations for someone like me.
