Embarkation form, e-ticket, bording pass confusion

Hi Everyone!

We booked our cruise through a travel agency and they asked us if we want to do the checkin ourselves, or should they do it for us. We opted for the latter and sent them all of the required information. The travel agent then sent over a PDF with the Embarkation form, luggage tags, etc. That’s clear and according to the travel agent, we don’t have to do anything else.

The confusion comes because of the “MSC for me” app. There we can see all of the details that we sent to the travel agent, but it still looks like we haven’t checked in, and we get email reminders about the checkin. In the app it says that it will issue the boarding pass and the e-ticket after we complete the checkin in the app. Checking closes 24h before ship departure I think.

My questions are: - are the e-ticket, embarkation form and boarding pass basically the same thing? - what happens if we don’t complete the checkin in the app? Is what the travel agent did enough? We have an assigned checkin time already as well - is the mobile checkin just a process to make the in-person checkin more fluent?

This is the first time we’re going cruising and we want to make sure we don’t mess up anything.

Thank you for your responses in advance!
