Oak fire just cancelled my family’s SOBO

Drove them to the Valley today for their Lyell start tomorrow. Now, we’re back down out of the mountains and will be home in an hour.

AQI was 350-500 depending on where you measured it today. Cleared up a bit at sunset but it’s still pouring in and will continue to; and it’s flooding 120 through the pass. It’s impossible to get through to Devil’s Postpile without going through heavy smoke.

I’m sure people will still go. We can’t do the vertical in terrible air for days.

So disappointed. My kid did MTR to Whitney with me last year and this was supposed to the northern half. Spend all week vacuum sealing food etc.

I am super over these explosive fires.

UPDATE 7/27: looking a lot better the last 48 hrs, containment is up to 25% and monsoon weather should help. Fingers crossed for folks starting this week or later!
