new to hunting, any recommendations on rifles?

Well title says it, im a newbie trying to get into hunting as iv been interested for a while now, took the gun safety course, exam and so on, now i have my license and hunters ed card now i need a gun but dont really know about whats best for a beginners gun, i was thinking a savage axis II since im going after white tail deer but id like to hear from more sources before settling on it.
