The big repot project
I’ve been procrastinating this job (or chobby, as I like to call my hobby chores) for a couple of months and todays the day I bite the bullet and repot almost all of my houseplants that are in desperate need.
The poor suckers have been slightly neglected of late since moving into a new apartment with a garden that needed a lot of work. So many of them are dry, droopy and have some yellowing leaves.
I bought the soil ninja multipack that contained base soil, vermiculite, zeolite and bark so it’ll be my first time mixing my own soil. Ive done some research to get the balances right dependent on their needs but I’m nervous I’m gonna screw it up. Calatheas and such need more moisture so I’m going heavy on the vermiculite and monsteras and such need a chunky mix right? My friend also 3D printed me a moss pole so I’ll be fitting that now I have some aerial roots coming.
The soil contains worm castings and will have lots of nutrients already so do I need to fertilise this time? I’m also going to do a close inspection for pests and add some systemic bonide for good measure. Anything else I should consider? In terms of light, after trial and error they all seem to be happy in their respective places. I’m blessed with big windows.
My BOP is in a pot that is far too large, and loads of the leaves are raggedy from when I bought it on FB. It’s given me 3 new leaves recently and they seem really healthy and strong with no tears or drooping.. I want to speed up the process of recovery for this 6ft beauty, so do any of you have any tips? Light wise it’s right next to a south facing window and seems happy there.
Also - shoutout to those of you that have massive collections cause I desperately want hundreds but my 13 plants seem like more than enough to keep me constantly busy! I feel awful for neglecting them recently, but luckily they all seem like they’ll bounce back pretty nicely after a groom and a drink.
