Final Fantasy VI or Final Fantasy VIII

I’m looking for an emotional-character driven introspective final fantasy story that deals with a lot of themes and leaves you thinking of it after you finished it. My favorite ff games are 7 and 9 (being 9 my favorite). This two are my options (i know 10 is very emotional,but i already played it). Which of the two is the better one for me? Which one has better characters and deals with psychological problems and strong themes?
