Pain w subcutaneous injection
Hey fibro friends!
TLDR: it hurts when I take meds that are administered by subcutaneous injection. Thoughts? Advice?
So, I know I’m not doing it wrong. I have tried stomach, thigh, and glutes (have not tried back of arm but it’s so sensitive it seems like the worst option). About 1/3 of the time, it feels like nothing. 1/3 of the time it’s a little uncomfortable. But the other 1/3- it really freaking hurts.
My leading theory and why I’m posting in this sub is that it’s an issue with my facia. Like, if I inject in a place where my facia is too tight then it hurts, maybe?
What do you all think? Does anyone else have this issue and have you found anything that helps?
For context: I use a teeny tiny syringe. This has been happening for months. I rotate my inject sites. I’ve tried rubbing the area, icing it, and heating it before injection and I don’t think I’ve noticed a difference really with any of those options.
Update for anyone in the future who may have this issue and sees this post: lidocaine totally worked.
I also talked it out with my doctor and she said the theory about fibro impacting facia, nerves, inflammation, etc. made sense to her as to why it hurt so bad at random times for seemingly no reason. Feels nice to know I’m not totally bonkers lol
