Artificer to Witch reflavour?

Sooooooo.....

My friend wants to play an artificer at my table, because she thinks the infusions are really interesting, and loves the artillerist subclass. This is fine, but i'm a new DM, and im worried that the technology thing might be a little out of kilter. i was considering having them travel to a technologically advanced land to pick up this character, but it looks like she will be joining right before the party goes on a quest to kill a wizard (which has already been set up, given to them and partially paid for in game). SO! i had an idea. artificer feels like a great opportunity for a "witch" class (bear with me).

The infusions are like enchantments, boots of the winding path are simply enchanted boots. Magical armor is just that, enchanted armor. same with weapons. it doesnt really need much thinking.

the eldritch cannon? a cauldron. HEAR ME OUT! it has legs and walks around itself, and when commanded spews fire from the brew inside, releases a magical aura of vitality and strength or sends a beam of force from within, energy released as eye of newt mixed with powdered unicorn horn within a solution of giants blood.

arcane firearm? just a wand! maybe a staff or broom if the player desires.

so... what do you think? yay or nay? the player seems equally excited by this vibe, shes not really attached to the tech thing, its more that its a unique meta to deal with. should i bother with this? or just say "you meet a traveller from a far off land... " and its techy there?
