Beginner crocheter struggling to crochet through a slip stitch?

I don't know if that title makes sense or not but anyway. I got a pattern, and the stitches themselves are pretty easy but basically every row has a chain of 15 slip stitches. I can get the first row after the chain row, but when I'm going back doing the next row, I literally can't find the holes/spaces for the slip stitch and it's increasingly frustrating. Does anyone have any tips?
