I feel like I'm being Punk'd
I got a call a few weeks ago from a woman about a ESL online job from a company. I still don't know how she got my resume, which has my phone number on it, as I haven't applied for any ESL positions in over a year and I never actually applied to this company.
Typically ESL companies within my region pay complete sh*t (yes, worse than Cambly) and I immediately shut them down. However this woman continued to call me over a few weeks and finally when we talked she asked me to do a Demo lesson with her the next day. Unbelievably, I happened to not be tutoring on Cambly the next day for the first time in weeks so I said sure why not. She said pay was determined by experience and I told her I wouldn't tutor with them if the pay is low and is not paid in USD.
Long story short, we completed the interview last week and she called me today to offer me the position. They offered almost double pay per hour for 1x1 lessons and slightly over double for group lessons than Cambly pays. Full payment is given for cancelations within less than 12 hours and for no-shows. My jaw almost dropped to the floor.
I will put a post here if they need more tutors when I am onboarded and find out more about the company (its a middle eastern company so the students are only arabic natives). There is no option to apply from their website. I will still work with Cambly until I build regulars on the new platform as it's the same model as Cambly (you choose the times you work by opening them on the calendar). However, they have a minimum you need to open, which is 16 hours.
Maybe I am a pessimist, but it seems too good to be true that this opportunity just fell from the sky like that.
I know I will get downvoted for this because some people like to sh*t on other people's opportunities and/or success, but I have no one else to share with who would understand my excitement other than my fellow Camby tutors. ππΌππ
