Shatrughan Singa admits affair with Reena Roy

Shatrughan Sinha recently shared his side of the story when he was romantically involved with Reena Roy while being married to Poonam Sinha.

Shatrughan Sinha was at the peak of his career when he was romantically involved with two women in his life. While he married one of them, he struggled to end his relationship with the other. He was romantically linked with his co-star Reena Roy when he announced his marriage with Poonam Sinha. Even hours before his wedding with Poonam, Shatrughan was in London for his stage show with Reena, which he briefly mentioned in his memoir: Anything But Khamosh. After all these years, the actor accepted two-timing with his wife and Reena Roy and said he felt guilty throughout. “It’s not just the girls involved in the love triangle that are suffering, the man equally suffers”, said the actor.

In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Shatrughan Sinha was asked about accepting two-timing with his wife and Reena Roy in the past. The interviewer said, ‘I remember from the past when you told me you had your feet in two different boats.” To this, the actor quipped, “Two different boats? I would say, sometimes I was in several boats.”

He then explained, “I wouldn’t take names. But, I am grateful to all the women who were part of my life. I don’t have any grudges against anybody. I never think ill of them. They have all helped me grow and become a better person.”

Accepting having two-timed his wife and and his Kaalicharan co-star, the actor said, “I have definitely made mistakes in my life. It was natural for a boy, who had come all the way from Patna to get lost in the glitz and glamour of the industry. I didn’t know how to deal with stardom. People get lost in all this. I didn’t have any guardian to guide me. However, after Poonam came in my life, she helped me a lot.”

Sharing details about his situation while being in the love triangle, Shatrughan Sinha said, “I don’t want to take the name, but whatever was happening with this person. I am grateful to her. I have received lots of love from her, and have learnt a lot. I have no complaints.”

He added, “When a man is good at heart, and he is having two committed relationships simultaneously, he too suffers a lot in terms of his mental and physical health. You also feel guilty. When you are out with your lover, you feel guilty for your wife at home and when you are with your wife, you feel bad for your lover: Usko khilona banake kyu rakha hai?’.”

The veteran star then confessed, “I want to say, its not just the girls involved in the love triangle that are suffering, the man equally suffers. He struggles to get out of the situation even when he wants to.”

Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy, met on the sets of Kalicharan (1976), and went on to star in films like Milap, Sangram, Sat Sri Akal, and Chor Ho To Aisa, where they grew close to each other until the former announced his wedding with Poonam.

In an interview with Rajiv Shukla, Shatrughan Sinha addressed the reason behind his decision. When asked, “You were romancing Reena Roy, but you married Poonam. Why?” To this, the actor said, “Sometimes in life, one reaches a juncture where making a decision becomes very difficult. But once the decision is made, it may not always be in everyone’s favour.”

He also addressed this phase of his life in his memoir and shared, “It was a difficult period for me also because withdrawing from an emotional entanglement elsewhere was taking its time. Promi (Poonam) used to cry a lot, but she knew I was trying my best. Sorting out our lives took its own time because it was a question of a commitment to the other party also. When I was with her (Reena) outside, I was faced with the question, ‘You’ve set up your home. So was I a toy to be used and cast away?’ It was not a comfortable position to be in.”
