Jugalbandi - Opinion

I have now watched the jugalbandi at least 10 times now.

1. Initially Radhe is a smitten kitten, just remembering watching Tamanna perform for the first time. He is reeled in by his family a number of times. But he still remains that way up until a certain point.

2. Tamanna is a performer, not a singer. So, her singing along side Devendra or Mohini makes sense. Here, the family has two-fold shock value - a) they don’t subscribe to the performance aspect of programs. Remember they had to be told to not be stationary in their auditions. b) they have tried a number of times to reel Radhe in, but he cannot be, because of how smitten he is.

3. After riffing off with Mohini, Tamanna has become confident and now baits Radhe with the Sajan Bin and her expression. Here, it clicks for him that he is the superior singer and he is here for a purpose. He NEEDS to win this.

4. Tamanna had accepted up until here that Radhe won’t retaliate, so when he does, she has a panic attack because she knows he is musically superior. She also remembers the last time Radhe they sang together, he had pushed her down a dozen notches or so.

5. Then, she, instead of reeling him in with the same sultry expression, tries to match up with him. That pushes him further. And then the crack happens.

6. Musically, she could have continued to lower the scale while keeping the tone and that may have worked. She would have known how to handle this if she had more training. But unfortunately she didn’t.

Outcome - Tamanna was an asshole for expecting Radhe to back down and not try to win. Radhe was an asshole for not accepting that he wants to win.
